Carara National Park is a national park in the Central Pacific Conservation Area located near the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It was established on 27 April 1978 as a biological reserve, but its growing popularity after 1990 forced the government to upgrade its category to national park in November 1998. [1]. Carara National Park, known as Parque Nacional Carara in Spanish, is a beautiful section of rainforest located in the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica. In the indigenous Huetar language, the national park's name means: "River of Lizards" - a reference to the Rio Tarcoles which is filled with around 2,000 crocodiles.

Carara National Park is a bit less in price in comparison to other destinations and is $10 for adult foreigners and $5 for children. Entrance for nationals is only 1,000 colones and children are 500 colones. If you are over 65 remember to bring your cedula in order to enter for free. The hours of operation do differ between the seasons.. Carara National Park is located just 9.3 miles (15 km) north of Jaco and about an hour from San Jose. Several miles of hiking trails are open for visitors. Inquire for information with the Quebrada Bonita Ranger Station, which sits along Hwy 34 just minutes south of the Tarcoles River. The ranger station will be happy to give advice and current.
