King David I founded the Cathedral in 1124. In 1745, the arrival of Bonnie Prince Charlie in the city was announced in the Cathedral. Regular concerts and other events are held there.. St Giles Cathedral. The great grey bulk of St Giles Cathedral dates largely from the 15th century, but much of it was restored in the 19th century. One of the most interesting corners of the kirk is the Thistle Chapel, built in 1911 for the Knights of the Most Ancient & Most Noble Order of the Thistle. The elaborately carved Gothic-style stalls.
